Introducing Anti-Microbial Coating to Protect Your Customers

The recent public health crisis has highlighted the need to minimise the risk of the virus transmitting through various touchpoints. As things go back to “normal,” it’s critical to keep shared surfaces (such as touch screens and self-checkout counters) regularly sanitised to prevent the spread of the virus and offer a greater sense of peace to customers as they go about their daily lives.

Antimicrobial agents are able to coexist on products to kill microorganisms and microbes which stops their growth altogether. A microorganism can be a virus, fungus, or simply bacteria and when they are exposed to Antimicrobial drugs like antibiotics, antifungals, and antibacterial supplements, a resistance against the sickness can be built up.

During the beginning of the Pandemic, NCR published their Retail Hardware Cleaning Guide, which introduced simple dos and don’ts to help retailers minimise the risk of spreading the virus on their own turf. Now they’ve even gone as far to expand their commitment to their customers’ businesses with safety and innovation. NCR has launched a brand-new anti-microbial coating that can be applied to in-situ hardware, including touchscreens, cash drawers, scanners, receipt printers, pin pads, self-checkout counters, and privacy shields.

This Anti-Microbial coating promises to make it difficult for microbes to live on coated surfaces, limiting the possibility of transmission through touch. This coating also works to improve the effectiveness of standard cleaning and disinfecting procedures, helping to educate staff to come on how to check off all of the boxes. Surfaces will be treated to create a durable and long-lasting bond that will persist with regular usage and in between standard cleaning procedures. Over time, hardware will build up strength and become more resilient to scratches and dirt over time.

NCR’s take on this Anti-Microbial solution is that it would essentially be applied to the face of the device and then it’s ready for customer interaction. Following that the next application wouldn’t be scheduled until at least 6 months later. Although no one has the cure for COVID-19 yet, there is much we can do to continue sanitising and promoting healthy hygienic practices, and NCR is doing just that.
