Crafting out the Future of Distribution Centers December 16th, 2020
In all times, especially the ones that we’re living through this year, Distribution Centers provide the lifeline to retailers, manufacturers, and end-users alike. As the demand for essential goods has become increasingly critical during these past, several months, Distribution Centers and Warehouses are responding at all fronts, to creatively fulfill the unmet need at stake. Due to COVID-19, many facilities have been forced to shut down their services and remain in a state of lockdown to help stop the spread of the virus. In some instances, there were several DCs that stayed open service the needs and demands with several restrictions and limited employees on the clock. Shifts and breaks were staggered to balance employee coverage and team meetings were adapted to address the necessary social distancing guidelines that were mandated.
Despite the challenges, supply chain leaders are still required to abide by those social distancing sanctions in traditional warehouse workflows such as inventory counting, order picking, and cold storage environments. That being said, DCs are now implementing new procedures through technology solutions to remain safe throughout the facility.
Honeywell understands all of the challenges that come along with managing the aftermath of a Global Pandemic, and they’ve worked to develop solutions that can assist customers during this unprecedented time. Honeywell’s Operational Intelligence software solutions works alongside several of their handheld devices to detect safety mandate compliance rates and also respond to local health sites if an issue or possible COVID-19 victim were to be located within the workplace. From asset check-out/check-in, remote control and device system wipe, device cleaning management, and even social distance proximity detection, this portal possesses the functionality to process “almost normal” workplace operations to help employees feel comfortable and safe in their departments.
